A.T. is the recipient of the Giacomo Levi Medal Award of the Italian Chemical Society.
The recognition rewarded the twenty-year collaboration with Treibacher Industrie AG (Austria) which recently led to the industrial development of catalysts for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions containing nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds and particulates. To honor the memory of Prof. Mario Giacomo Levi, the Italian Chemical Society, through the Industrial Chemistry Division, has since 1958 promoted the institution of the "Mario Giacomo Levi Medal" for innovations made to industrial chemical processes. The medal is awarded jointly to an academic scholar and an industry exponent who, in collaboration, have distinguished themselves for the innovative activity carried out in the field of Chemistry, bringing innovation to at least one industrial realization. The Medal was awarded to Prof. Trovarelli and Dr. Amod Sagar of Treibacher Industrie AG on the occasion of the XXII National Congress of Industrial Chemistry held in Catania in November. The winners were asked to present their research and industrialization work during the event.
The Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, and in particular the industrial chemistry group, has been collaborating with Treibacher Industrie AG for more than 20 years in the study of catalysts for environmental applications for the removal of harmful gases from industrial processes and mobile sources (cars, trucks ). The innovation specifically concerns the engineering and formulation of new materials for the removal of nitrogen oxides from exhaust gases and is also nominated for the national innovation award in Austria. Over the years, the studies have been the subject of two European projects and have led to the creation of 4 patents extended worldwide and to various publications in scientific journals.
